01Read the yellow rings instead of fleeing to the edge
The useful cue is where the first bursts land. In the Steam discussion, sawyergrubert describes earlier affected areas recurring as later targets are added. Derw4tz recommends passing close to Qliphoth to reach gaps, while warning that a boss positioned near the edge makes escape harder. The original questioner later reported beating the fight after moving closer. Treat those observations as a positioning tactic for the ring sequence, rather than a reason to stay against the boss through every other attack.
Practice the response in three decisions: release your attack input, identify a reachable gap, then move only as far as needed to keep a route open. Recheck the next warning before adding damage. If the edge is already behind you, prioritize getting back to roomier ground when the current attack allows it. A gap you can see but cannot reach before the next burst is not a useful destination; choose the nearer reachable space instead of committing to a long crossing.
| What is happening | Your next action | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| The first yellow areas appear | Read their positions and find a nearby gap. | Attacking through the first warning. |
| More ring areas overlap | Recheck the gap while watching recurring danger areas. | Assuming each burst is unrelated. |
| Boss and player are near an edge | Recover room to move when an opening appears. | Retreating farther into the same corner. |
| The immediate burst resolves | Use a short attack if the next warning leaves room. | Starting a long damage sequence without looking again. |

02Match your response to the attack you are seeing
The yellow-ring tactic answers one specific failure case. For the first phase’s radial projectiles, follow the visible projectile gaps before committing to an attack; TEAM HORAY adjusted that pattern’s spread in 1.0.22. For a barrier sequence, first reach the protected side indicated by the fight. The 1.0.23 and 1.0.31 notes separately address projectiles entering a safe zone and damage occurring inside the barrier. These changes explain why an older clip can show a different outcome at a similar position.
When several effects compete for your attention, choose movement before spending your main attack resource. For Lightning Blade, that means preserving the MP needed for Cloud Slash while dodging, then spending stacks when you can complete the action. A resource cap is a reason to look for an opening, not a reason to ignore the active warning. Apply the same rule to any slow or committed attack: finish the defensive response, make a short damage attempt and look for the next cue.

03Choose survival for the mistake ending your run
Before replacing your entire build, name the failure. If the same ring sequence kills you, practice that positioning response with a weapon you already know. If you arrive with little health, preserve useful recovery and defense earlier in the run. If you survive several sequences but struggle to deal damage, keep the working defensive pieces and check whether your main attack is actually being supplied, paid for and used during openings. Change the part causing the failure so the next attempt gives you a clear comparison.
Costume tradeoffs matter here. A damage bonus bought with lower Defense or Evasion can be a poor exchange when repeated hits are ending the attempt. Review the costume comparison before the run and choose a drawback you can manage. In Hard Mode, also read the active restrictions: limited recovery or a modifier that rewards enemies for hitting you changes how costly trading damage becomes. The final-boss route should remain playable before you chase a higher damage ceiling.

04Boss takes no damage or the ending gets stuck: check the version
If Qliphoth remains invincible after a teleport and stun, check the installed version before throwing away a functioning build. TEAM HORAY fixed that specific state in 1.0.26, along with a related failure to move after being stunned at the start of some patterns. A brief transition and a permanently stuck boss are different problems; a recording of the teleport, stun and subsequent attacks is more useful for diagnosing the latter than a screenshot of an empty health change.
If the player and boss die together and pause or abandonment stops working, that state has a 1.0.33 fix. Update first when playing an older installation. If the same sequence happens on an updated build, keep the version, single-player or multiplayer context and a short recording for the developer. Use the patch history to identify a matching failure instead of spending another attempt trying to solve a software state with different equipment.
